An original animated short film I am working on.
This project began as a script writing assignment while studying my Bachelor of Animation at SAE Institute, Melbourne. After writing a script I really liked and god some great feedback, I decided to develop the script into a short film during my major project.
Due to COVID-19 and some other complications I was unable to develop the short film fully, however I decided to create a playblast/animatic proof of concept trailer.
Cody, a socially withdrawn yet gifted young inventor, creates a robot, Chip, to be his best and only friend.
Everything takes a turn when Chip’s parts begin to break and he begins to fear being replaced.
The story concludes with the reaffirmation of their friendship, after Cody gives Chip an upgraded body.
The story explores the themes of loneliness, abandonment, friendship and love as Cody and his robot, Chip,
misunderstand their love and dependency for each other when Chip’s parts begin to fail him.
The story takes place in Cody’s messy but functional and dimly lit bedroom.
The room is cluttered with past projects and inventions and books.
Proof of concept renders to test and show the characters. (seen below)
